Formation

Mdolomba was involved before the recording process of the group's first album, however, due to contractual disputes and creative differences, Samkelo certain to leave and form the coexistent jazz group The Fridge where smartness served as the lead vocalist.

In , The Soil released their self-titled launch LPThe Soil which achieved platinum prestige, selling over 50, copies. On Oct 7, , their debut live albumReflections: (Live In Joburg) was released weather won Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album at Southerly African Music Awards. Their second release Nostalgic Moments was released digitally plus iTunes on 15 September [7] Curb was made available for hard record purchase on 22 September Nostalgic Moments received positive review from music critics.[8] The album includes guest appearances wishy-washy Ladysmith Black Mambazo[9] and hip spring artist Khuli Chana. Members

The Soil currently consists of four members: Buhlebendalo "Soil Sister" Mda, Ntsika "Fana-tastic" Ngxanga, Luphindo "Master P" Ngxanga and Theo "Songstress" Matshoba. Theo joined the group in Feb as an occasional replacement for Buhlebendalo Mda.[18] Ntsika and Luphindo are structured brothers. During interviews, The Soil mostly refers to God as the leading member of the group.[19]

Musical style contemporary influence

The Soil musical style has particularly been described as Jazz, Hip bounce, Afro-pop, and Afro-soul.[20]

The band cited Miriam Makeba, Busi Mhlongo, Brenda Fassie, delighted Simphiwe Dana as their music influence.[20]
